Why learn with driveJohnsons?

Established over 10 years ago, starting with just one man, Anthony Johnson, and his car, driveJohnsons has grown into a well-respected driving school. With over 400 instructors covering over 500 locations across the UK, driveJohnsons is rated among some of the best driving schools in the country. driveJohnsons provides intensive driving courses which are tailored to each learner’s requirements and experience level, to help them pass the driving test first time around.

The first lesson is an assessment to get an idea of your experience and to outline how many lessons you will need before you’re test-ready. You will also receive a free driving manual worth £19.99 when you sign up for a first lesson and book a lesson package afterwards. The manual is designed to supplement your driving lessons to help you pass your test quicker. Another benefit of learning to drive with driveJohnsons is that they have had many celebrity students in the past, so your driving instructor could have taught one of your favourite celebs!

The driveJohnsons driving school also has a YouTube channel, Facebook, Twitter and Google+ pages for learners and instructors to follow and contact them.

Stats according to driveJohnsons

The driving school claims that in 2017 over 10,000 learner drivers passed their driving test the first time with a 92% pass rate.

driveJohnsons driving school locations

driveJohnsons operates across over 500 locations in the UK. Type your postcode into the postcode finder on the school’s website to find the average lesson prices for your area.

Waiting times

The waiting times for your next lesson will depend on your postcode area and instructor. However, after the first assessment lesson, most learner drivers will be able to book in another lesson with the same instructor for that same week.

Vehicle types

The cars that driveJohnsons uses for lessons are always dual control, easy to drive and contemporary models so that learners have the best learning experience possible. Depending on the availability in your local area, the various options that you can choose from include the Audi A1 & A3, Mini, Mercedes A-Class, BMW 1 Series, Citroen DS3, Ford Fiesta, Volkswagon Golf and Vauxhall Corsa.

driveJohnsons offers lessons in automatic and manual cars but there are more manual instructors compared to automatic instructors available.

driveJohnsons driving instructors

Most driving instructors operating under the driveJohnsons franchise are fully qualified ADIs (Approved Driving Instructors), but some are also PDIs (Potential Driving Instructors), meaning that you could be taught by a trainee.

Any driving instructor employed by driveJohnsons will be consistently monitored for their performance and any instructors with too many negative reviews will be asked to leave the franchise. You can request to learn with a female driving instructor when making your first booking.

New Starter lessons start at a one-hour taster lesson, two-hour assessment, 10-hour block booking deal and a 10-hour automatic deal. Intensive Block Courses start at a 10-hour blast, 20-hour course, 30-hour course and a 10-hour automatic course. The prices for each type of package will vary depending on your location and your instructor’s hourly rate.

driveJohnsons also offers an additional bundle pack to learners, which is £25.99 and includes the Driving Manual worth £19.99, driveyourself audio CD worth £14.99, 25% off Pass Plus saving £37.50 and online theory training on any device worth £14.99.

driveJohnsons’ instructors offer lessons in two-hour blocks.

Driving courses

driveJohnsons offers several types of driving lessons: Intensive Courses, Pass Plus, Towing Courses, Fleet Training and Taxi Courses. The main learner lessons are divided into New Starter and Intensive Block Courses.

After a one-hour taster lesson, your instructor will advise on the next steps if you would like to continue your learning with driveJohnsons. This will be based on your driving experience and level.

You can book in for an assessment by calling 0330 124 4877 or by sending the text message “DRIVE ASSESSMENT” to 63666.

Offers and promos

There are offers and discounts available online, based on location. This driving school also offers gift vouchers and first time offers for new learners.

Cancellations and refunds

Should you wish to cancel a lesson, driveJohnsons requires 24 hours’ notice to be given to your instructor. If you cancel a lesson without giving enough notice then your instructor is entitled to charge you the normal lesson rate or the prorated amount for the lesson for block bookings, which will include any discount if applicable.

Any driveJohnsons instructor has the right to cancel a lesson if the learner hasn’t presented their valid UK provisional driving licence before the first lesson. If this is after the 24 hours’ notice period, the learner will be charged for the lesson. If unforeseen circumstances occur, for example, the driving instructor’s car breaks down, or the instructor is ill, driveJohnsons will aim to find a replacement instructor or vehicle as soon as possible.

Learners must contact driveJohnsons in writing within 30 days of their purchase date to start the refund process. Any unused hours are eligible for a refund. Learners who pay their driving instructor directly will need to request a refund from the instructor rather than the school.

If you would like to switch instructors, you must contact driveJohnsons in writing as soon as possible before your block booking lessons expire. You will be reassigned an instructor if possible.

For intensive course bookings, you can cancel before taking any lessons but you will lose 50% of the course payment unless you give a minimum of two weeks’ notice. If you wish to cancel an intensive course after having some lessons, then you will lose any remaining lesson hours you’ve paid for.
