I called the service centre and explained what I needed, initially I booked 1 two hour lesson. They are very pushing to book in bulk and constantly talk about refunds which doesn't add much confidence. I booked with alec in cambridge. He seemed ok- was late in the 1st lesson. So much explaining and drawing instead of practical. Out of 2 hours I maybe drove 60 mins. He didn't give me a tracking card with what I had learnt. 2nd lesson was more driving but he couldn't remember what we had done previous and asked me what I was doing that lesson. Lesson 3- didn't turn up. When I call he said he didn't book me in and he came and picked me up for a free 40 min lesson. He was going on holiday which I new about and booked a lesson with him when he got back- didn't turn up! There wasnt any structure, planning or tailoring of lessons. I got to the point where I dreaded driving. I'm now with someone else but its pushed everything back about 6 weeks as finding a private instructor was difficult. I would have spent £230 on 4 lessons..... don't waste your money on this company, go private where you can see who you are getting.

It was dissapointingly bad, they have the resources and the instructors to make a big difference.

It was dissapointingly bad, they have the resources and the instructors to make a big difference. However they only focus on making as much money as possible. The prices are incredibly high and the instructors dont even care if you succed or fail they just want your money. They always double book you and move you around without giving any inclination as to why. The instructors were rude and instead of getting to know them they were reguarly changed and I had to go over several times things that I had learned before.

AA just acts as an agency.

AA just acts as an agency. Very disappointing! I paid for 10hours and I had two hours introduction training. But my instructor didn't come for the training afterwards and each time he had one excuse (although I got the confirmation date from the AA). after two weeks, I had to call AA every day continuously and chase them for one more week so I got the money back for 8 hours to my account after 1 month. but AA did not accept to pay for the two hours I had and they simply said we are just agency and this is between you and your instructor. You just trust AA and choose one instructor without knowing them and pay lots of money but they don't care about you. so what is the point! don't waist your money for no extra value.

I had around 40 lessons, and finally passed on my 4th driving test.

I had around 40 lessons, and finally passed on my 4th driving test. I believe I failed more due to nerves however my instructor Mahesh was very encouraging, reassuring which helped me with my confidence a great deal. I highly recommend Mahesh as an instructor as he explains the rules very well and goes over each area until your confident with it.

I booked 17hrs of lessons for my daughter as a Christmas gift.

I booked 17hrs of lessons for my daughter as a Christmas gift. The instructor turned up for the first lesson on the 31.12.18. We booked and agreed the lessons in advance weekly for the month of January 2019. The second lesson the instructor sent a text stating she was unwell on the day the lesson was due to take place. The third lesson the instructor turns up a bit early, doesn’t recall booking lessons in advance and states she can only see my daughter every two weeks for 2 hourly lessons. There was no lesson plan or record of learning and when she did turn up you’d get a call saying can I come 15mins early or she would drop my daughter off late which meant she was late for the next lesson. I cancelled all the lessons with AA and asked for a refund. The AA is meant to have instructors nationwide. They could only offer me a replacement of two instructors who teach on a automatic vehicle who charged more. I paid £478 for 17hrs. The only good thing about the AA was how quickly they processed the refund for the unused hours. They are just a booking or processing centre, they don’t appear to have much background information on the instructors and it really is pot luck who you’ll get. The instructors appear to be self employed/franchise. They’re hiding behind a brand and the AA also purchased BSM. It’s such a shame as I learnt with BSM over 20yrs ago and my son passed with the AA some years ago. The standard has really dropped, it’s all about the money. I’ll find an independent driving instructor through word of mouth. I would suggest others do the same as you have no idea what you’re getting and lessons tend to cost around £30-£31 per hour.

I had a fantastic and amazing instructor .

I had a fantastic and amazing instructor . She Was on time and good with scheduling more lessons in the run up to my test. She was helpful as she gave me all the show me/tell me questions so I could learn them easily. I am completely satisfied with my experience of my instructor .I would recommend the AA.

Highly recommend the AA driving school and specifically my instructor Chris in Manchester.

Highly recommend the AA driving school and specifically my instructor Chris in Manchester. After thinking I would never pass after taking a few tests many years ago when I was 18, I finally passed first time around 16 years later when I gave it another go. Chris was a great teacher and really helped me get to a point where I felt both confident and comfortable behind the wheel.

I have paid substantial money for my daughter to take driving lessons with the AA.

I have paid substantial money for my daughter to take driving lessons with the AA. I find them very unreliable. My daughter does not know one week to the next when her lessons will be - so zero planning. When she does finally know, it's either gets changed at short notice, or gets cancelled. My daughter is expected to constantly fit around the driving instructor at short notice, it means she cannot plan anything else in her life until she has passed her test. I do not know if this is common place within the AA or the industry as a whole, but I do know if I was so unreliable in my job, I'd be sacked! On a plus point, she does seem very happy with her instructor and having spoken to him myself, he certainly has a "nice" way about him that would be suited to teaching.
